Egyptian inaction deepened Sudanese disillusionment. [causal]
Historians of the modern Sudanese note that the revolution left several legacies, among them the dramatic cessation of Egyptian influence over the Sudan and a bitterness among the Sudanese, who resented Cairo’s remain- ing inactive while scores of Sudanese were shot at or imprisoned during the demonstrations. The Egyptian lack of response to events in the Sudan, so abhorrent to Huda Sha`rawï, also provoked deep disillusionment among both Sudanese soldiers and participants in the White Flag League. This dis- appointment was as effective as British efforts in the smashing of the league.
