But other Europeans involved in service in the Sudan or in Egypt respected Fawzï immensely. In the fearful and anxious days after the British bombardment of Alexandria, when Egyptian soldiers following `Uräbï were almost at fever pitch, Europeans unsympathetic to the rebellion were impressed by Fawzï's ability to keep Cairo secure and calm.
