Northern Ireland’s referendum boycott likely suppressed turnout. [fact]

The fact that only some 100,000 persons voted out of the north's estimated population of 650,000, suggests that at least half the electorate boycotted the referendum. All adult men and women were entitled to vote, women voting for the first time in the north's history.
