Somali rhetoric framed restoration as invasion. [contrarian]
These subtle and quite undeliberate politically-loaded semantics strengthened the impression that the Somalis were the aggressors brazenly invading Ethiopian territory, when in reality it was Somali settlements whose independence was being restored – with help from the armed forces of the Somali Republic. In the euphoria of victory the W.S.L.F. used exactly the same terms in announcing their successes when it would have been more prudent to have spoken of the recovery of Somali sovereignty.
