Workers received land in exchange for company labour. [fact]
Each worker was allocated one hectare of land, of which half was for his own use, while the remainder was to be worked by him for the Company at rates which varied according to the yield produced. On this basis, a comprehensive labour code was elaborated under which recruits from different tribes and areas were grouped together in cultivating villages on the consortium according to their ethnic and tribal origin.
