← A Savage War of Peace- Algeria 1954-1962

A watchman's antique rifle repelled armed rebels at a mine. [fact]

At the Ichmoul lead mine, an attack aimed at seizing some 1,500 pounds of dynamite failed equally, with a commando of wildly firing rebels driven off by a Muslim night-watchman, who returned their fire from under his bed with an antique cavalry rifle.

XREF: Connects to the broader Algerian independence conflict being covered in this work, showing the asymmetry of the colonial/insurgent struggle.
