Barre told Hussen that Abshir was a CIA agent and delivered his reports to the Americans through his younger sister, who had been educated in the United States. Hussen could not hold back what he felt and told the general that Abshir was unjustly prosecuted by the previous government and that he did not deserve the three-and-a-half-year detention this government imposed on him.
