By 1944, Hayek found himself similarly ignored, in semiretirement, writing on the dangers of socialism in his epic The Road to Serfdom. Hayek's earlier Prices and Production, his Meisterwerk on business cycle theory, like Schumpeter's 1939 Business Cycles, arrived dead at the presses.
