New migration drives half of Europe's Muslim population growth [fact]

In a projection with no migration, the Muslim share of Europe’s population would be expected to grow from 6% in 2010 to 8% in 2050. When expected migration is factored in, the Muslim share of the population forecast in 2050 rises from 10%.” (p. 150). At first glance, migration may seem to play only a small role in increasing the Muslim population in Europe. However, “about half (53%) of the projected growth of Europe’s Muslim population can be attributed to new migration” (Pew Research Center 2015, 50).
