Early twentieth-century writers compared Mormonism to Islam unfavorably. [fact]

In 1912, Bruce Kinney wrote Mormonism: The Islam of America, the book's title stemming from the perceived similarities between the two religions in terms of topics such as polygamy and ideas on heaven. The resemblance was not intended to be a salutary one, as the book written by a former superintendent of Baptist missions in Utah dealt with "the Mormon problem."
