Ruth's story frames loyalty as proto-feminist virtue [definitional]
Michele has done historical research on Judaism's overlooked female figures, and I was hoping to go a little deeper on the origin story of my/our name. "It's all about loyalty," Michele says of the biblical story. Ruth's loyalty to Naomi after the deaths of their respective husbands makes her, in the words of Bethlehem's village women, "better … than seven sons." … This is a nice message, we agree, even a proto-feminist message, about women's bonds beyond bloodlines.
XREF: Connects to feminist biblical scholarship and revisionist readings of overlooked scriptural women.
