Islamophobia surged dramatically following Trump's 2016 election. [fact]

Islamophobia not only helps our enemies, but it also threatens our own democratic freedoms as well. Following Trump’s election, the Southern Poverty Law Center reported on a surge in bias-motivated hate crimes in the seven days following the election. Further, membership in anti-Muslim hate groups saw a quick spike, increasing by at least 300 percent. A mosque in Ypsilanti, Michigan was burned to the ground. Another—in Tucson, Arizona—was broken into and its copies of the Quran ripped apart. In Bloomington, Minnesota, a homemade bomb exploded at an Islamic center during morning prayers.
