Right-wing foundations funneled forty-two million dollars to Islamophobic activists [fact]
The Center for American Progress (CAP) once prepared a comprehensive report entitled Fear Inc.: The Roots of the Islamophobia Network in America, which explored the multimillion dollar Islamophobia industry in the United States. The CAP report found that over a seven-year period alone, at least seven well-endowed American foundations and conservative donors provided over forty-two million dollars to anti-Muslim activists in America. According to CAP's findings, these wealthy right-wing funders of Islamophobia included the Richard Mellon Scaife Foundation, Donors Capital Fund, Lynde & Harry Bradley Foundation, Newton & Rochelle Becker Foundation/Charitable Trust, Russell Berrie Foundation, Anchorage Charitable Fund, and the Fairbrook Foundation. The majority of the forty-two million dollars went to five prominent anti-Muslim activists: Frank Gaffney (Center for Security Policy), David Yerushalmi (Society of Americans for National Existence and the American Freedom Law Center), Daniel Pipes (Middle East Forum), Robert Spencer (Jihad Watch), and Steven Emerson (The Investigative Project).
