9/11 abruptly reversed Afghan neighbors' long-standing friendly ties [fact]

Omar: This lady used to be very nice with us. Sometimes she [would] call us [and] knock on the door and say, “Come, have some cake and Irish drink.” Or she would say, “Hey, come on, help me. This needs to be taken out.” We give her help, she give us. And she was nice, and we are nice together. [After] 9/11, she [told us], “You have to leave. You are terrorist.” Saher: Wow. Just like that? Omar: Just like that. “You are Afghani!” We left the house anyway. We left the house because of that. We used to be [there] for her better than her family, but suddenly, she wants us out.

DEFINE: A concrete account of how the 9/11 backlash turned even previously warm neighbors against Afghan residents.
