In March 2016, an Arab Muslim American family was removed from a United Airlines flight after they asked a flight attendant for help securing a booster seat for their young child. The mother wears the hijab. The couple were asked to show their tickets and then removed from the flight because of safety concerns (Ellis and Johnson 2016).
