Arab Americans experience racism despite being classified as white by the census. [fact]

The term invisible minority reflects how many Arabs have been marginalized, yet their experiences with racism have largely been ignored because they are racially classified as white according to the U.S. Census (Tehranian 2010). … I continue with this work by identifying how the racialization of a Muslim identity became institutionalized by the state and was maintained by private citizens and Muslims themselves.

XREF: Connects to broader scholarship on the racialization of Muslim and Arab identities in post-9/11 America. Builds on: "Census data collection may enable surveillance of Muslim Americans."
