Hijab-wearing women face pressure to alter dress from family and strangers. [causal]
Muslim women who wear the hijab are under a lot of pressure to change or control their dress because of fear of violence from strangers and pressure from family members and loved ones who want to protect them. The interviews I conducted confirm Lori Peek's (2012) findings that refusing to take off the hijab can create stress for Muslim women with their family members.
