Hughey (2012) shows how groups with what would appear to be opposing political viewpoints, like white nationalists and white anti-racists, actually make meaning of whiteness via similar ideologies on race. It is important to draw on this work because it can be used to show that anti-Muslim sentiments are pervasive and not limited to white Southern Republicans.
