Most American Muslims reject extremism yet distrust US counterterrorism efforts. [fact]

Because of the exaggerated concern about Muslims as a threat to national security, state authorities and members of the general public are interested in attitudes held by Muslims living in America. Who are they, and are they anti-American? Will they bring sharia law—Islamic law—to the United States? Pew's (2011) study titled Muslims in America: No Signs of Growth in Alienation or Support for Extremism attempted to answer some of these questions by surveying Muslims in the United States. They found that the overwhelming majority of Muslims condemn Islamic extremism, but fewer than half of Muslims interviewed feel that the U.S. government's efforts to combat terrorism are sincere, and more than 80 percent felt satisfied with life in America.
