Because Muslim women were not surveilled by the state like Muslim men, they felt more agency in resisting their racialization. Muslim women work to rearticulate the narrative that surrounds Muslims in America through their actions in public spaces. These efforts did not come without a price. Muslim women often felt exhausted and stressed because of this responsibility that has been placed on their bodies.
