Post-9/11 border agents routinely conducted invasive searches of Muslims [fact]
Bilal: I've been searched very thoroughly at lots of airports. Actually, when I came back to Chicago about six months after 9/11, I was coming in from Canada after doing this hip-hop project. I was stopped at the border and this was the most ridiculous invasion of privacy I've experienced as a result of being a Muslim. The guy asked me my name and asked me if I was Muslim and then proceeded to read my journals, and was just flipping through my journals and just sitting there for twenty minutes reading my journals that I had on my carry-on bags. It was really a bit much.
XREF: Connects to broader documentation of post-9/11 racial profiling and surveillance of Muslim travelers at US borders.
