Surveillance and representation pressure erode Muslim women's individuality and wellbeing. [causal]

Another common sentiment expressed by Muslim women was how surveillance induced stress in their lives. Arab Muslims report high rates of depression and anxiety since 9/11 (Abu-Raiya et al. 2011). Some of the Muslim women I talked to admitted they felt stress because of their surveillance and the need to respond to it. The pressure to represent an entire collective in a positive way eroded Muslim women's individuality, causing them emotional stress, tension, and strain.

QUESTION: Relevant to ongoing discussions about minority communities bearing the burden of representing their collective under state surveillance.
