This act of denying Muslims their American identity is a racializing act and is accomplished through hypersurveillance. The belief that to be American is to be white is resurfacing as Muslims are made to feel they are incapable of being loyal to America because their bodies are equated with terror and their values are somehow antithetical to Western or American ones.
