A year later, the AEA predictably declined to produce a code of ethics for its membership. It did issue a new disclosure policy for conflict-of-interest-reports for papers submitted to the AEA-sponsored economics journals—which are only a small subset of the universe of ranked economics journals. Since the same body had earlier promulgated a code of provision of all econometric data sets for all submitted articles to AEA journals, which it then promptly proceeded to neglect and ignore, the prospects for any major changes of behavior are slim at best.
