In this book, I treat Web 2.0 both as a historical moment and an ongoing discourse—one that combines technological progressivism (technology always makes things better) and technological determinism (technology determines social effects). The result is a set of characters, mythologies, and actions drawn from familiar American themes, like the rags-to-riches entrepreneur, and repositioned within startup culture.
