Zines like Bamboo Girl and Slant. [fact]
Zines like Bamboo Girl and Slant, written by young women of color, provided an anti-imperialist analysis of whiteness in punk rock and Riot Grrrl, complicating the idea of a unified “zine culture.” This work was directly influenced by critical race theory, postcolonial theory, and feminist theory, and contributed sophisticated self-reflexivity and critique to young women’s understanding of feminism.
