The best and clearest exemplar was New York's Wells, Rich, Greene, founded in 1966 by thirty-eight-year-old Mary Wells, its president and guiding force. Everything about the agency was timely, including Wells's announcement at its founding that "we are terribly aware of the current sounds and fears and smells and attitudes. We are the agency of today."
