← The Costs of Connection

Thus, although historical colonialism might be over. [fact]

The legacy of colonialism explains not only debt and poverty but also other important issues of our times such as racism, migration, lack of educational opportunities, and terrorism. The remnants of colonialism will linger as long as former colonizers continue to try to impose their economic and political models of development as the only worthy goals for the rest of the world. Thus, although historical colonialism might be over, we can still speak of coloniality, that is, of legacies of colonialism that have outlived colonial rule per se.
