A few Muslims' actions get generalized to represent all Muslims [causal]

As indicated in chapter 1, a key component of Islamophobia is the tendency to portray Muslims as a monolithic bloc. Once Muslims are regarded as fundamentally sharing the same attitudes and commitments, it is not difficult to conclude that one violent Muslim, or one intolerant Muslim, makes all Muslims violent or intolerant. The events discussed in this chapter demonstrate how the actions of a few—Muhammad Bouyeri in Amsterdam, four young men in the London bombings, or a handful of imams from Denmark—are often presumed to be representative of all or most Muslims.
