Sweden secretly handed two suspects over to the CIA for rendition. [fact]
The Swedish Security Police suspected the men of participating in terrorism and, with permission from the Swedish government, secretly apprehended the two men in December 2001. The police drove them to an airport outside Stockholm and handed them over to masked CIA agents. The agents stripped the men of their clothing, inserted suppositories into their anuses, dressed them in disposable underpants and overalls, chained their hands and feet, and put hoods over their heads. The two men were then put on a plane for Cairo, Egypt, where they were imprisoned, interrogated, and tortured. Al-Zery was released in 2003 and Agiza in 2011.
DEFINE: This is a concrete example of extraordinary rendition, a practice where suspects are secretly transferred to other countries for interrogation and torture.
