A shared colonial white-supremacist history links Australia and New Zealand. [causal]
Although Australia and New Zealand are separated by the Tasman Sea and a colossal ocean of physical difference, a "regular white man" who crossed that sea in the days before March 15, 2019, would link the two nations. Brenton Harrison Tarrant was an Australian, not a New Zealander, two identities commonly thought to be one. The accents are similar, but what united the two countries was a kindred colonial history in which white supremacy almost completely wiped out the indigenous populations and established two predominantly white nations in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
