Hindu nationalist identity fuses citizenship with holy-land affiliation [definitional]
The Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) is the ideological engine for Modi and the BJP party. Its founder, Vinayak Damodar Savarkar, published the cornerstone text for the RSS movement, titled Hindutva: Who Is a Hindu?. In that seminal text of Hindu supremacy, Savarkar wrote, "To be a Hindu means a person who sees this land, from the Indus River to the sea, as his country but also his Holy Land."
DEFINE: Defines the RSS's core ideological concept of Hindutva, which ties national identity to sacred geography.
