Metropolitan Detroit remains deeply segregated along racial lines. [fact]

It was a short drive, but mapping the racially segregated landscape that is metropolitan Detroit, Lincoln Park felt like an entirely distant place. It was downriver but in many respects felt like down south, where the sight of Confederate flags and menacing stares from white men in pickup trucks were common.

XREF: Connects to broader histories of redlining and white flight in Detroit, such as the 8 Mile Road divide.
