Mourning rituals confer eternal life upon the departed. [definitional]

Although inextricably tied to death, mourning is a spiritual ritual wed to life. It is, as uttered by my grandmother many years ago, an act that marks our second birth. And more importantly, an act that gives eternal life to those who have departed.
