In “Algeria Unveiled,” postcolonial giant Frantz Fanon wrote, “[It is] the plans of the occupier that determine the centres of resistance around which a people’s will to survive become organized.” Not on this night in Istanbul, which provided intellectual oasis and physical exodus from the Islamophobic hegemony that trapped us.
