War on Terror evolved into a globalized weapon against Muslim identity [causal]
But more than two decades in, it is clear that the War on Terror is no longer just America's imperial project. It has morphed and metastasized into a global crusade—a crusade encompassing a circuit of interconnected campaigns unfolding within nation-states, in which governments weaponize the faux theory that Muslims are a demographic threat and that Islam inspires "extremism" and "radicalism." These governments launch their own campaigns in the name of the War on Terror, institutionalizing the baseline that expressions of Muslim identity are tied to terrorism. This has been written into laws across the world, legitimized by a war started and spearheaded by the world's greatest superpower.
