Witnessing oppression shaped Naeem's devotion to activist faith. [causal]
Islam, for Naeem, was essentially a faith of action. It drew his deep devotion because of its emphasis on defending the oppressed, whether Muslim or non-Muslim, which took root deep within him as a child growing up in Abbotabad, Pakistan. In Pakistan, he witnessed oppression at home and in nearby Kashmir. That landscape of struggle fueled his ambition, and he ultimately climbed the ranks at Citibank and became a senior manager at its Lahore office.
