Born in Austria in 1900, Haberler studied in Vienna with two of the principal figures in the history of the Austrian School of economics, Friedrich von Wieser and Ludwig von Mises. He later left the country and took a position in Geneva with the League of Nations' Economics Intelligence Service (EIS) before immigrating to the United States. In 1936 he joined the economics faculty at Harvard, where he taught until 1971. He later became the American Enterprise Institute's (AEI) first resident scholar, and like fellow Austrian economist and MPS member Fritz Machlup, he was associated with AEI until his death in 1995.
