The Russian Doll of neoliberal organization was never intended to be transparent; the central core was not supposed to be visible from the think tank perimeter. The way it has evolved over half a century is not very easy to comprehend because neoliberal intellectuals guarded their privacy and prerogatives well. However, both an in-house history (Hartwell 1995) and a critical history (Walpen 2004) have unscrewed the multiple layers to some extent, providing a general overview with regard to the evolution of the neoliberal thought collective.
