In case of a labor shortage one firm may ask another's help in seeking new recruits (VM: 7). In several instances employees are lent among firms (VM: 27), even at the highest level. The murder of General Carlo Alberto Dalla Chiesa and his wife in 1982 was allegedly part of an exchange deal between the Palermo and Catania families. The former had disposed of the deputy boss of the Catania group, who was becoming troublesome, and the latter, returning the favor, carried out the general's execution (TB-GdS; TC-GdS; TB: I, 71).
