Superfluous mediation can create problems rather than solve them [definitional]

Although a bridge connects two banks, it also makes the distance between them measurable; and where mediation is superfluous, it is worse than superfluous.

DEFINE: Explains a conceptual principle: even helpful instruments (like a bridge) carry hidden costs when they are unnecessary, since they render distances visible and measurable that need not be.
