It is the less ostentatious soundmarks that need the special vigilance of the acoustic designer, for despite their originality or antique charm, they are more likely to be unceremoniously excised from the soundscape. Often it will take the visitor to point out the value or originality of a soundmark to a community; for local inhabitants it may be an inconspicuous keynote.
