I think the essence of this poem, quoted by Chinua Achebe, is the telling story of how a tradition, or the way people used to manage and reconcile their differences, is being polluted by new, foreign ideas. These ideas will make things fall apart and cause the centre to fall and not hold and unleash anarchy upon the country.
