Political trust concerns goodwill, while confidence involves competence only. [definitional]
Hence we probably should not adopt Dunn’s redefinition of trust for politics as merely about competence. Rather, we should generally speak not of trust in government but only of confidence in it, as Luhmann (1988, 102) argues.
XREF: Distinguishes trust from confidence, echoing Luhmann's framework — connects to broader trust literature in political theory and sociology.
