Trust arises from ongoing relationships, not independent judgment. [fact]
As noted in chapter 1, most people, when asked whom they trust, speak immediately of people with whom they have ongoing relationships. For them and for the encapsulated-interest view, trust is relational. My trust of you grows out of my relationship with you; it is not independent of that relationship (or of reputational proxies for such a relationship).
DEFINE: Introduces the 'encapsulated-interest view' where trust is inherently relational and stems from personal relationships or reputational proxies.
