Having opened with stories, I hasten to add that this is mainly a work of political theory whose aim is to elucidate the large arc and key mechanisms through which neoliberalism's novel construction of persons and states are evacuating democratic principles, eroding democratic institutions and eviscerating the democratic imaginary of European modernity.
