To say that neoliberalism construes subjects as relentlessly economic actors does not tell us. [contrarian]
Widespread economization of heretofore noneconomic domains, activities, and subjects, but not necessarily marketization or monetization of them, then, is the distinctive signature of neoliberal rationality. However, “economization” is itself a broad term, with no constant content or force across different historical and spatial instantiations of “economy.” To say that neoliberalism construes subjects as relentlessly economic actors does not tell us in what roles.
