Residents, not patrons, create true home territory through mastery. [definitional]
Despite the cozy relationship which the patron may establish with a familiarly known locale, he cannot truly be said to have created a home territory. That distinction belongs to the resident, who, by dint of not only using the locale regularly but using it on most occasions for long periods of time, acquires for himself an intimate knowledge of all there is to know and a set of privileges that goes with such mastery.
DEFINE: Distinguishes 'home territory' from mere frequent patronage — residency confers intimate knowledge and privileges that patronage cannot.
DEFINE: Distinguishes home territory from mere familiarity: mastery and privileges earned through extended, regular use define true residence.
