Nasser's "Arab socialism" was fundamentally secular despite Islamic rhetoric [causal]

For instance, Nasser introduced various measures in the form of political, social, and economic reforms under the banner of “Arab socialism.” One such measure was meant to quell the influence of the clergy and prevent them from interfering in matters of the state. Another imprisoned members of the Muslim Brotherhood and outlawed the organization. We see here a further separation of religion and politics. Though Nasser claimed that some of Islam’s teachings were consistent with his view of “socialism,” Nasserist ideology was secular at its core.
